Next year's International Critical Management Conference will be held in Naples, from 11-13 July, 2011. One of the streams is "Embedding career in its social, cultural and historical context".
Our aim in this stream is to extend traditional notions of career by giving attention more explicitly to issues of class, gender and ethnicity, to consider those who are often excluded in contemporary discourses about career and to consider the importance of national/cultural and community contexts and affiliations. Thus we hope to challenge career theory and develop a more inclusive and contextualised consideration of the concept of career. Likewise, we explore the usefulness of this concept in theory and practice for situations and individuals currently not covered by the bulk of career research.
