    CALL FOR EDITOR PROPOSALS/NOMINATIONS * CAREER DEVELOPMENT INTERNATIONAL

     

    Emerald, the world's largest publisher of English-language scholarly journals in business and management, is inviting applications for the role of Editor of Career Development International http://www.emeraldinsight.com/cdi.htm). This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and energetic individual with previous editorial experience to edit a leading journal in Emerald's Human Resource Management portfolio. The Journal is currently edited by Yehuda Baruch, Norwich Business School, UK.

     

    * About Career Development International

     

    Careers and Development are inter-related fields of study with connections to many academic disciplines, organizational practices and policy developments in the emerging knowledge economies and learning societies of the world. Career Development International provides a platform for research in these areas that deals with questions of theories and theory development, as well as with organizational career strategy, policy and practice. The Journal is international in outlook and has a broad editorial scope which addresses issues of theory and practice from individual, organizational and societal perspectives.

     

    Now in its 12th volume, Career Development International is a well-regarded and widely-used scholarly publication.  In 2006, more than 190,000 full text articles from the Journal were downloaded by researchers, students and management practitioners around the world.

    The Journal has good links with academic communities worldwide and sponsors the annual Best Symposium prize in the Careers Division of the Academy of Management.

     

     

    * The role of the Journal Editor

     

    Emerald is seeking to recruit an engaged and enthusiastic Editor to manage editorial processes for the Career Development International and to guide its continuing development as a scholarly journal. The Journal Editor will be responsible for:

     

    - Managing the Journal's peer review process and delivering appropriate content for seven journal issues per volume.

    - Upholding and developing editorial standards on the Journal, through the good management of the peer review process or other content generation initiatives.

    - Engaging the Editorial Advisory Board in the work of the Journal and working with Emerald to determine the composition of this group.

    - Commissioning and overseeing the delivery of 1-2 special issues per volume.

    - Developing and maintaining a network of contacts to act as advocates for the Journal or sources of copy as appropriate

    - Attending conferences or similar events to promote the Journal and source copy

    - Working with Emerald to achieve agreed development objectives for the Journal and to raise its international profile and standing

     

    The Journal Editor receives an honorarium in lieu of his/her work on the Journal. Additional budget is also made available to the Editor to part-fund attendance at conferences or other events of relevance to the Journal.

     

    * Next steps

     

    Interested individuals are invited to submit a resume/CV and a proposal outlining how they would seek to develop the Journal over the course of their editorship. Proposals for co-editorships will also be considered.

    It is anticipated that the new Editor(s) will assume responsibility for the Journal in November 2007.
