Dear colleagues,
In the spirit of leveraging "interfaces" where we connect, we are reaching out in search of collaborators who might contribute to an AOM presenter (paper) symposium on the interface of developmental relationships and technology.
We are planning to include one paper from our current study on the effect of media richness on coaching relationships and outcomes. We've also invited a contributor from Accenture's Strategy group to provide a view of the topic from practice. Our approach to organizing a paper symposium typically includes time for audience engagement and discussion in what will hopefully be a provocative and generative topic. So we hope you will consider joining us!
Our working abstract is below (though this may shift depending on other papers). If you have a paper that fits the theme, please respond to me directly with a title and abstract by Friday, December 9th. (passarelliam@cofc.edu)
Best regards,
Angela

Developmental Relationships in a Digital World
The digital era in organizations has prompted shifts in both relational forms and the manner in which relational partners interface. For example, new forms of developmental relationships, such as executive and peer coaching, have emerged to address the growth and learning needs of the contemporary workforce (Kauffman & Coutu, 2009; Parker, Hall, & Kram, 2008), and mentor relationships have become networked as traditional mentoring has given way to developmental networks (Higgins & Kram, 2001). Moreover, the space in which these relationships form, grow, and are maintained has broadened. No longer is it necessary that individuals in coaching or mentoring relationships be collocated, and potentially may never even meet face-to-face. This symposium brings together research at the interface of relationships and technology to explore how the realities of the digital world affect developmental relationships (and vice versa).
