Dear Career-net Colleagues and Friends,
In case it is of interest, I want to let you know about my new book,
EMOTIONAL AGILITY, which is is currently the #1 Bestseller in Applied Psychology Psychology and Emotions on Amazon. (

Written for a mainstream audience EMOTIONAL AGILITY describes the inner skills that help us to adapt and thrive in life, with all of the everyday distractions, changes, and challenges that come our way. These inner skills are directly relevant to career navigation and related transitions.
I've aimed to write a book that is both robust from a scientific perspective, but that is also accessible and immediately applicable. Key themes in psychological research language (as different, more mainstream phrasing is used in the book) include:
- Emotions as functional.
- The paradoxical effects of emotion/thought suppression and rumination.
- The development of a 'meta' emotional skills and 'meta' thought skills.
- The impact of emotion processing on well-being.
- How values, rather than being abstract 'nice-to-haves' exert a critical buffering effect that protect us from unconscious biases, assist in habit change, and in help us to be more resilient.
- That these skills help us to be gritty (persevering and focused) but also, and just as importantly, to know when to adjust our goals.
- The importance of discomfort (vs avoidance) to our own wellbeing and growth.
- How tweaks to our mindsets, motivations and habits, are critical to change and growth.
- How to Raise Emotionally Agile Children.
- Emotional Agility at Work.
EMOTIONAL AGILITY has been a labor of love. I am very excited with how it has turned out and with the feedback that it's getting. (I've included some of the endorsements below).
With warm regards,
Sue
