LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN ORGANIZATION STUDIES
The person appointed to this post in Organization Studies will
contribute to the expanding portfolio of teaching in the broad subject
area of OS and will play a full role in the thriving research work of
the OS Group both in collaborating on existing projects and developing
their own research activities. In this position you will be asked to
contribute to the OS teaching portfolio at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels.
Current teaching
The Organization Studies teaching group in the School of Management
currently includes: Andrew Brown, Yiannis Gabriel, Peter Reason, Russ
Vince, Mehdi Boussebaa, Ian Colville, Dawn Eubanks, Nick Kinnie, Gregory
Schwartz, Juani Swart, Svenja Tams and Zeynep Yalabik.
Undergraduate teaching in Organizational Studies takes place through all
four years of the various programmes. Excellent opportunities exist to
teach specialist courses, closely linked to research, to high quality
students. Compulsory introductory courses are provided in the first
year followed by a variety of specialist options in later years. All
these courses share a number of common characteristics: (i) a commitment
to developing understanding of theory, policy and practice through
interactive teaching methods (ii) an explicit intention to draw
extensively on our students' practical placement experience (iii) a
strong desire to reflect both the foundation as well as the forward
looking, more specialist aspects of the subject area. The number of
students on the optional courses ranges between 30-100.
Post-graduate teaching for the AMBA-accredited MBA is deliberately
designed to gain maximum benefit from the often extensive work
experience of the course members. In addition to core five-day courses
taught by members of the OS Group, some specialist units of two and a
half days are provided, for example in Knowledge Management, and there
is scope to extend these based on staff interests. Members of the OS
group also teach on the general MSc and Advanced Management Practice
programmes.
Work and Employment Research Centre (WERC)
The OS Group hosts one research centre, The Work and Employment Research
Centre, which provides strong links between practitioners and academics
and between research and teaching at both postgraduate and undergraduate
levels. Its mission is to build upon its world-class expertise and the
vibrant research culture in the School to generate rigorous,
inter-disciplinary research which is relevant to academics and
practitioners alike. It strives to diffuse research insights to diverse
audiences; to encourage applied research on issues of central importance
and to seek to develop the resources required to maintain a critical
mass of researchers and research students. Full details on current and
past research projects, publications and membership can be found at
www.bath.ac.uk/werc.
The Centre is directed by Dr Juani Swart and currently has members drawn
from the full-time academic staff of the School of Management and the
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
It appoints a Visiting Professor drawn from among senior policy makers
(currently Professor Ron Collard of PwC) and provides opportunities for
a select number of international scholars to work in the Centre for a
few months at a time.
