The goal of this PDW is to foster academic and practical conversations around one of the most important roles many of us undertake in our lives, namely that of a parent leader. We explore research links between parenting and several topics in which management scholars actively engage, such as Leadership (e.g., Avolio, Rotundo, & Walumbwa, 2009; Graves, Ohlott, & Ruderman, 2007), Entrepreneurship (Cardon, Zietsma, Saparito, Matherne, & Davis, 2005), Mentoring and Work-Life Balance (e.g., Friedman, 2006; Greenhaus & Beutell, 1985), Positive Organizational Scholarship (Cameron & Spreitzer, 2012) and Identity (Ibarra, 2003). The audience will also benefit from hearing from the parenting expert, Doone Estey, co- author of the book Raising Great Parents. Doone Estey will share her insights from her consulting work with parents and families and provide further links between various management topics such as conflict resolution, motivation, team building, and their application in her teaching and parenting workshops.
