Teaching at a Business School as a Second Career: Opportunities and Challenges - Academia as a Second Career
Saturday, Aug 7 2010 9:45AM - 11:45AM at Le Centre Sheraton in Salon B
This PDW seeks to provide a forum to explore issues relating to teaching at a business school as a second career. Like the faculty of other 'professional' schools it is not unusual for business school faculty to have entered academe as a second career. The experience which they bring to academe undoubtedly enriches their teaching and research, but the individuals themselves may find the career transition very challenging, due to rigorous systems and organizational patterns in academe that may not be fully compatible with the capabilities, perceptions and expectations of second career faculty. The workshop takes the form of a series of roundtable discussions that consider how and why this situation exists and its implications for our practice.
Hope you'll come and join the debate – 2nd career academics especially welcome!
Best regards
John
