Dear Careers Division Members,
Its that time again! Time to renew and energize the division with election of new officers. The Academy of Management Careers Division elections will be held in March 2008 for positions which will become vacant in August 2008.
This year the Academy is using an on-line tool which will facilitate the nominations process for all Divisions. The Careers Division will utilize this tool. However, due to technical issues the tool is not yet ready for use. It should be available about February 1st. In the meantime, this notice is to advise CAR members of the vacancies so that they may consider whom to nominate. Here are the criteria and the open positions.
1. Eligibility A nominee for office or Steering Committee shall:
a. Be a member of the Division
b. Not be a current officer of another division in the Academy of Management
c. Not have previously held that position within the Careers Division the previous year.
2. Vacant Positions are:
*Program Chair (one-year term) with responsibility to act as Program Chair for the Division in the 2009 Annual Meeting. Note: Under the Constitution, the person elected as Program Chair for 2008-9 will automatically become Chair-Elect of the Division in 2009-10 and Chair in 20010-2011.
*PDW Chair (one-year term) with responsibility to chair the Professional Development program for the Division in the 2009 Annual Meeting
*Secretary (Three year term) with responsibility to record the minutes of meetings and handle correspondence for the Careers Division.
*Three Representatives-at-Large on the Division's steering committee (Three year terms) with responsibility to serve on the steering committee, which is the primary policy and practice decision making body of the organization.
It is the policy of the Careers Division to have a minimum of at least two nominees for each open position and of course more nominees are welcome. I hope all members of the Careers Division will begin thinking about the nominations process and possible nominees. Remember it is perfectly proper to nominate yourself under this process. If you are thinking of nominating others, please be sure to ask them if they are willing to serve, or if you prefer, let me know and I will be glad to contact them and ask if they are willing. If you have questions about any of the positions or the process itself, I will be glad to try to answer them.
