Call for Abstracts: AOM Symposium on Agency and Control in Career Development
Organizers: Mirit K. Grabarski, Jennifer Jones-Morales
Facilitator: Alison M. Konrad
Dear Colleagues,
We are putting together a presenter symposium on Agency and Control in Career Development, intended to submit to the 79th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Boston, August 9-13, 2019. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your work for inclusion within that symposium.
Ideas about agency and control were often implied in career theories, and over the last few decades there were a few attempts to discuss their place and role in career development. A few models of personal control (Bell & Staw, 1979; Guest & Rodrigues, 2015) aimed to link control to potential antecedents, and then to career outcomes. Yet, a systematic investigation of perceptions of control – how they are manifested, shaped and what are their consequences – is yet to come. Examples of topics for the proposed symposium could be factors that shape perceptions of agency and control, individual experiences of control and/or powerlessness in regard to careers, as well as critical points of view.
If you are interested in having your work included in this symposium submission, please send a 250-500 word abstract to mgrabarski.phd@ivey.ca by December 10th, 2018. Abstract selection complete and notifications will be made by December 15th, 2018, when extended abstracts are due January 4th, 2019.
Best Regards,
Mirit & Jennifer
