The Careers Division is proud to offer a great opportunity to discuss your careers-related research as part of our Careers in the Rough initiative. Specifically, we are excited to announce the next round for our popular Careers in the Rough Professional Development Workshop (PDW) at the annual Academy of Management (AoM) meeting.
This PDW will involve participants receiving feedback on their near final-form manuscript or well-developed research proposal from eminent scholars in the Careers Division during a 2-hour PDW session at the AoM. These leading careers scholars will facilitate the mentoring session and provide their mentees with feedback on topic choice, theoretical development, methodology, data analysis, and/or the theoretical and practical implications of their research.
Who are the leading career scholars involved?
We are delighted to announce that the scholars serving as mentors for the 2026 PDW are Yehuda Baruch, Gina Dokko, Kimberly Eddleston, Danna Greenberg, Peter Heslin, Maria Kraimer, Wolfgang Mayrhofer, Maury Peiperl, Julia Richardson, Denise Rousseau, and Sherry Sullivan.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is open to careers researchers at all levels who are able to attend the annual AoM meeting.
This workshop covers two tracks:
1. 1. The first track invites participants to submit a near-final manuscript.
· The application requests a near-final manuscript that includes the research problem and questions, a review of relevant literature, a theoretical framework, methods, key findings, and contributions to research/practice of no more than 40 double-spaced pages, including references, tables, and/or figures. Manuscripts should include a title page, with all authors and affiliations and an abstract.
· Participants are asked to include a maximum 250-word description of a dilemma, question, or concern that they would like to address during this workshop.
2. 2. The second track, aimed at Ph.D. students, allows participants to submit a well-developed research proposal in the planning stage.
· The application requests a well-developed research proposal that includes a statement of the problem, a review of relevant literature or a theoretical framework, a proposed research approach or methodology, and intended contributions of 12 to 40 double-spaced pages, including references, tables, and/or figures. Research proposals should include a title page, with the Ph.D. student's and other collaborators' names and affiliations.
· Participants are asked to include a maximum 250-word description of a dilemma, question, or concern that they would like to address during this workshop.
Please note that all manuscripts and research proposals will be reviewed to ensure they adhere to the requirements.
What does the procedure look like?
If you would like to participate, please complete the application form by June 15th. The application form is available here.
Applicants will be notified of acceptance and if accepted, matched with mentors based largely on the fit between their manuscript/research proposal and the scholars' interests/areas of expertise. We strive for groups of four, i.e., two mentors and two mentees. Both mentors will give feedback on each manuscript/research proposal, and we ask each mentee to read the other's manuscript/research proposal. The groups of four will meet for two hours to discuss both manuscripts/research proposals in person during the "Careers in the Rough" PDW at the AOM Conference.
