Dear Fellow Careers Division Members
Welcome to Academy, welcome to Chicago! Hope you're having a great time if you're here already.
I wanted to just briefly review these opportunities to engage with the Careers Division, whether you're here in Chicago or not:
For those attending AOM in Chicago:
1. Attend Careers Division PDWs and academic program sessions – see the AOM program and emails from Victor Chen and the communications team for details of all sessions
2. Attend our Careers Division Socials tonight, Saturday, 8 to 10pm offsite at Flight Club, 111 W. Wacker Drive, a great place to unwind with new and old friends
3. Attend our plenary session on Innovating Careers for the Future: Policy, Purpose, and Organizations on Monday, 4.00 to 5.30pm at Swissotel Vevey1 (Session 1653)
4. Attend our 2024 Business Meeting: A great chance to learn how our Division works, meet your elected leaders, see a few famous and/or familiar faces – Monday 5.30pm to 6.30pm in Swissotel Vevey 4 (Session 1732)
5. Attend our 2024 Awards Ceremony and learn who won our best paper, symposium and student awards, our mid-career and our first new-look Hughes Lifetime Achievement awards.
6. Strike up a conversation with someone you don't know. Our Division is renowned for being warm and friendly, reinforced each time we chat with an unfamiliar face at our PDWs, sessions or socials. I challenge you to meet at least three new people at this meeting.
7. Begin developing a PDW and/or symposium to submit next year. Been inspired by this year's PDWs? It's never too early to start developing your ideas for next year, talk with potential collaborators. Discuss your ideas early with our incoming PDW Chair, Janine Bosak at janine.bosak@dcu.ie
8. Any issues? We wish to provide a safe environment to socialise, network and share your ideas, so remind all members of our Code of Ethics (https://aom.org/about-aom/ethics/code-of-ethics). If any member experiences harassment of any kind at the AOM Annual Meeting, please email ombuds@aom.org.
Whether in Chicago or not, other opportunities to engage with the Division include:
1. Consider running for an elected role on the Careers Division executive, such as Representative at Large or PDW Chair. These are wonderful ways to serve colleagues, meet people and learn about how your Division and AoM works. Self-nominations are most welcome. Please approach me or any current or former Careers Division office holders (https://www.cardiv.org/home) if you'd like even a preliminary chat.
2. Not ready for elected role? Consider volunteering to help out the executive by emailing me or incoming Chair, Serge da Motta Veiga directly at serge.damottaveiga@neoma-bs.fr
3. Submit your best careers scholarship for next year's meeting in Copenhagen. Our program is only as good as the papers we each submit to it!
4. Sign up to be a reviewer. Besides the reciprocal obligation if your name is on a paper or symposium being submitted for potential inclusion in the program, this is a great way to help advance the quality of Careers scholarship, learn the latest, and hone your scholarly skills in the process of helping colleagues do the same.
5. Join the Careers Division Regional Ambassador Program. We have a Regional Ambassador Program with country-level representatives who promote the Division by personally encouraging submissions, membership, reviewing and volunteering activities. Contact Annabelle Hofer at annabelle.hofer@wiso.uni-koeln.de
6. For more information, visit the Careers Division website: http://www.cardiv.org/ (or search "cardiv" in a browser).
As my time as your Division Chair draws to a close, I urge you to further explore ways you might help build and sustain our Careers Division, your scholarly community.
I look forward to seeing you soon…
With very best wishes,
Denise Jepsen
