    Dear Colleagues:

    The College of Business (CoB) and The Schmidt Labor Research Center (SLRC) at the University of Rhode Island are seeking an experienced and established scholar for the Fred Newton Endowed Professorship in Human Resources. This position is a full-time tenure track appointment at the Assistant/Associate level. The faculty member is expected to assume a leadership position within the area and college, and focus on working with the SLRC to build research programs in HR.  We encourage applicants from members of underrepresented and/or marginalized groups.

    URI's College of Business is the first accredited business school in the State of Rhode Island and recognized for its leadership in business education, research, and outreach. The College of Business is the only institution in Rhode Island with AACSB accredited programs at the undergraduate, Master's, and PhD levels and a separate accreditation for its Accounting program.

    Founded in 1984, the Charles T. Schmidt Jr. Labor Research Center (SLRC) at University of Rhode Island serves as a regional hub for education, research, and outreach on employment relations and human resources management.  Since its establishment, SLRC has been a beacon of employment relations expertise in Rhode Island, New England, and the nation.

    Responsibilities:

    • The applicant will engage in research in Human Resources and/or Labor Relations that lead to publication in targeted referred journals, secure grant funding, and work with the labor and human resource management community in the state and region.
    • The applicant is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Human Resources, Organizational Behavior, and/or Labor Relations with special emphasis on staffing, training and development, and compensation management and benefits.
    • In addition to teaching, the applicant is expected to engage students academically and professionally.

    Required Qualifications:

    • An earned PhD in Management from an AACSB accredited Business School or a doctorate in a related field with similar accreditation.
    • Evidence of established research in the HR/LR field with evidence of continuing research projects (e.g. published papers in high-quality journals, manuscripts under review and/or revise-and-resubmit, presentations in peer-reviewed conferences).
    • Demonstrated ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses.
    • Ability to engage in service activities; e.g. at the college, university, and professional levels, including work with the state and the business communities.
