In spite of the maxim that the best prediction of future behavior is past behavior, "๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ฒ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ญ ๐๐ง ๐๐ฑ๐ญ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ฌ๐ญ" (Gรผmรผsay & Reinecke, 2024).
Still, so much of strategy, teaching, and research is anchored to the past.

At the upcoming Academy of Management annual meeting, Jon Briscoe and I are hosting a symposium on prospective sensemaking; those processes where the attention and concern of people is primarily directed at events that may occur in the future.
We have a great line-up of presenters and co-authors joining us:
1. Mostafa Ayoobzadeh (presenter), Melika Shirmohammadi, and Mina Beigi: Prospective Sensemaking in Contemporary Career Contexts
2. Jon Briscoe: Integrating the Past and Future Self in Leadership and Career
3. Pascale Peters, Xander Lub, Robert Jan Blomme and myself: Building Sustainable Futures Brick by Brick: Exploring Prospective Sensemaking through LEGO Serious Play
4. Annemiek van der Schaft (presenter), Omar Solinger, Xander Lub, Woody van Olffen and Beatrice van der Heijden: "I Saw That Coming:" Employees' Prospective Sensemaking Stories of Organizational Change.
We're pleased to welcome Beatrice van der Heijden as our discussant, helping us to reflect, synthesize, and together imagine how individuals and organizations can more consciously prepare for and co-create sustainable futures.
Curious how we can better prepare for, make sense of, and even shape the future? Please join us on Monday the 28th of July at 3:30PM!
