In spite of the maxim that the best prediction of future behavior is past behavior, "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭" (Gümüsay & Reinecke, 2024).

Still, so much of strategy, teaching, and research is anchored to the past.

At the upcoming Academy of Management annual meeting, Jon Briscoe and I are hosting a symposium on prospective sensemaking; those processes where the attention and concern of people is primarily directed at events that may occur in the future.
