    Dear Colleagues:

Are you in pre-holiday work mode?  That is great, because it is time to submit your paper to the Southwest Academy of Management annual conference!  We are writing to you specifically with regard to the Human Resources and Organizational Development track, but we encourage submissions to all tracks.  We want to see you in Houston in March (8 through 12)!  You have less than two weeks to polish up that submission-the submission date is November 1.  There will be no extensions to the date this year.  The track chairs have identified the latest possible date that submissions can be accepted.

Of course, once we have papers, we need reviewers.  Please sign up as a reviewer when you submit your paper.  If you are willing to review but you will not submit to the conference, then please contact Justin Wareham (jwareham@okcu.edu).  Our submission system, EasyChair, does not really make it easy for you to sign up as a reviewer.  The Track Chair will have to accomplish this task for you.

The mission of the Southwest Academy of Management (SWAM) is "Crafting the Whole Professor."  We realize that you are already a whole person, but we can surely learn a lot from one another.  SWAM can facilitate that process.  The SWAM conference encompasses traditional paper sessions and symposia as well as sessions directed toward improving the teaching, research, and service domains that comprise our job.  If you want to re-energize, especially after COVID reduced our ability to connect with one another in the past few years, please join us (in person) in Houston.

We encourage innovative submissions to the Human Resources and Organizational Development track.  If you don't like the traditional paper sessions, how about a symposium?  If you don't like the traditional symposium approach, how about a debate?  We encourage dialog across different theoretical and empirical approaches (but really, no spitting or biting during debates-we're a friendly conference!).

We welcome submissions from both faculty and graduate students.  If you are considering your first conference submission, SWAM is a great venue!  You will receive supportive feedback on your submission and, if the submission is accepted, on your presentation.  If you are an experienced presenter, you will have both the satisfaction of serving as a role model to less experienced individuals as well as encouraging them to continue their work.  SWAM members are generous with developmental feedback.

You may be wondering about the conference venue.  Houston is a great city to visit.  The conference hotel is in the business district and next to Discovery Green-12 acres of green space in downtown Houston!  You will be a short walk from Houston's Aquarium and the flourishing arts district.  If contemporary music is more to your taste, another short walk will take you to jazz clubs and other music venues.  You can reach Minute Maid Park, the sports venue, easily by the Metro.  But you may not have too much time to enjoy the city, because you will be having such a great time with congenial colleagues at the conference.  And it is great to have a conference in a warm climate in March.

Please keep in mind is the submission date for the conference is November 1 (11:59 Central Time).  This date is a "hard" deadline-there will be no extensions beyond November 1.   As much as we would love to have your submission, we also need time to make sure that we present a great conference.  If you have any questions, please contact Justin Wareham (jwareham@okcu.edu) or Gayle Baugh (gbaugh@uwf.edu).

The SWAM website (https://swaom.org/) will have more information.  Or if you are inspired, you can go directly to the submission site ( https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=swam23)

    See you in Houston!
