The Peter B. Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria is now accepting applications for our PhD program in Management and Organization for September 2026. We would greatly appreciate it if you could share the attached poster with students or recent graduates who may be considering a research-focused PhD.

    Program highlights

Our PhD program is highly selective and designed for students passionate about addressing pressing societal and environmental challenges through organizational research. We admit approximately four students every other year, creating a close-knit cohort experience that fosters deep intellectual engagement and personalized faculty mentorship.

Gustavson PhD alumni have gone on to faculty positions at leading research institutions in Canada, USA and the UK, including Smeal College of Business, Penn State University (USA), Smith School of Business, Queen's University (Canada), and Warwick Business School, University of Warwick (UK), among others.

    Program structure

    • Four-year, cohort-based program explores organizations and the people within them
    • In the first two years, students complete a rigorous set of theoretical and empirical courses that lay the groundwork to conduct independent, high-impact dissertation research. They are trained in both qualitative and quantitative methods and develop the research design skills needed to explore complex and meaningful questions.
    • All admitted students receive a competitive financial package to support living expenses and tuition, as well as funds for conference travel and dissertation research.

The program also offers structured opportunities for teaching and research mentorship to prepare students for tenure-track roles.
